The Forgotten Organ That Could Predict How Long You Live

Sometimes the next longevity signal is not a new drug. It is a forgotten organ and a fresh way to look at it.

What happened

Researchers at Mass General Brigham used AI to analyze CT scans from tens of thousands of adults and found that the health of the thymus, a small organ most people never think about, tracked with healthy aging and cancer survival. People with healthier-looking thymuses tended to do better.

The interesting move here is method. Instead of running a new trial, they mined imaging that already exists and let AI surface a pattern hiding in plain sight. That is a powerful template for longevity science: extract predictive signals from data we already collect.

Healthspan progress will come partly from new biology and partly from reading old data in new ways. If you work in health or imaging, this is a clean example of the second path. What overlooked signals are sitting in your data?
